How to choose an IoT SIM card
Start with what the device does and where it sits.
- You need to reach the device remotely Choose a fixed IP SIM, so the device keeps the same public address.
- Coverage at the site varies Choose a multi-network SIM, which uses the strongest network available.
- The device uses a lot of data Choose an unlimited or high-allowance plan, for example for CCTV or a site router.
- The device works abroad Choose a plan with roaming in the countries where it will be used.
IoT SIMs by use
Low-data devices often need only a few hundred megabytes a month. We group those plans by use:
- EV chargers and vehicle trackers See IoT SIMs for EV chargers and trackers, from low-cost EE SIMs to roaming plans.
- Telecare and healthcare See healthcare IoT SIMs for alarms and patient monitoring.
- Drones and UAVs See drone SIM cards and eSIMs.
GleeSim Connect has supplied business connectivity since 2006 and is based in Livingston, Scotland, supporting customers across the UK. Not sure which plan fits? Contact our team or read our SIM and connectivity FAQs.
IoT and M2M SIM FAQs
What is the difference between an IoT SIM and an M2M SIM?
M2M (machine to machine) is the older term for devices that talk to each other over a network. IoT (Internet of Things) covers the same idea at larger scale. For SIM cards, the two terms mean the same thing.
How much data does an IoT device need?
It depends on the device. Telemetry and status updates can use under 1GB a month, while CCTV and routers can use far more. Tell us the device and we can suggest an allowance.
Can I order IoT SIM cards in bulk?
Yes. Contact our team with the number of SIMs and devices you plan to connect, and we will quote for the volume.
Do IoT SIMs work in a phone?
Some do, but IoT SIMs are built and priced for devices that send data. For a phone, a SIM only plan with calls and texts is a better fit.
